Experience = MC Squared

Believe it or not, I’m going to attempt to describe a very simple proof on life

experience using a statistical principle of the second law of thermodynamics.

Thermo who, you say…? Relax, I’m not going to unleash all of my nerdy side on

this one and I promise things will make sense in just a bit…Most people have at least heard of Einstein’s mass-energy equation E=MC^2, however I wouldn’t bet (except for the geeks out there) that too many have come across the scientific measure known as entropy. Without boring you with all the theoretical details and applications, entropy is (in its simplest form and according to the law of physics) a measure of “disorder” and in nature, it always increases. Furthermore, applied in the 2 law of thermodynamics, entropy relates to the irreversibility of “things” or processes in nature. For example, if you drop a ceramic pot off the kitchen counter, after it cracks into a thousand pieces on the ground it would be “highly improbable” for the pieces to reverse and come together once again, as one piece on the kitchen counter. Oh yeah, entropy is released in the “reaction” adding to the total entropy in the universe which tends toward infinity. Transitioning now away from all the scientific jargon towards its application in our everyday busy-bee lives, I propose that “life experience is similar to entropy in that it can only be gained.” Sure you enjoy “good” experiences and avoid “bad” experiences, but in the end of the day, they’re all experiences adding to your total experience. Just like the example with the ceramic pot, you can’t (realistically) go backwards in time to undo a particular experience. Instead, you embrace the experience by finding as little or as much meaning in it and continue forward along your path. It’s virtually impossible to deny that “everything happens for a reason.” So be thankful for where you are and what you have already and move forward with excitement into the unknown. Find comfort in realizing that what is currently “unknown” will soon be nothing more than an added experience to your experience…
